Hope Chest

This pair of stitched paper quilts activated the atrium spaces of the Gilcrease Museum. They each depict a murmuration of starlings moving forward through space. This work explores the connections between interior and exterior space in the context of the objects we create, inherit, and collect throughout our lives. Heirloom and handmade objects like quilts become integral parts of the environments and identities we build for ourselves.

Memory Box: By Artist Emily Chase

This project explores ideas about personal and generational memory, and the frailness of that thread.
In 2017, Chase suffered a concussion which caused a myriad of slow-to-heal symptoms, including fatigue, headaches, confusion, and long and short term memory loss. As her memory began to recover, her grandmother's memory loss, caused by dementia, worsened rapidly.
This work grapples with ideas about history, tradition, storytelling, and the connections between us we must work to maintain.
Sound design is by Priscilla Snow (ghoulnoise.com) who created original music using samples of Chase's recorded voice.
Video work is by Yellow Gecko LLC
